Saint-Petersburg is in ice blockade
Ship owner's disbenefits from detention are about million dollars per day. 95 ships, which daily freight costs about 10 000 euro, stand at the entrance and exit in ice blockade of Saint-Petersburg, Primorsk, and Ust' Luga. Besides, ship owners lose their money with fleet turnover. Cargo owners experience losses in Saint-Petersburg port because of hard current situation. Their goods have been delayed on board or in the port.
Government and terminals lose from the reduction of ships turnover and from the decrease of shiftment's volume. Now ships are standing idle in expectation of icebreaker assistance to break into and out of Saint-Petersburg. There are not enough docks in the port for ships' moorage that finished loading or unloading but cannot leave a port without an icebreaker.
Theoretically, each ship that has ice navigation limitation should be escorted on an individual basis to ice-free water. However, firstly, individual escort price will be too high for a ship owner and secondly, work in such regime can finally paralyze port. Meteorological forecast on this month is not favorable. It means that goods will be unloaded in emergency conditions.
In connection with the ice situation a change in the navigation schedule of "Petrolesport" OJSC happened. Now staff of PLP is working with clients in operational coordination regime.
